Great Grandma Beverly Jean Swan flew over from Santa Rosa, Calif. stayed with us for almost a week. On Monday 4 May 2009, Linda, Beverly, Lia, Elias and myself flew to Oahu and went for the memorial service for Great Grandpa Bob at Punchbowl. We met with Kenny and first went to the USS Arizona Memorial and then met up with Sam and Elizabeth. We then went to "Todai's for lunch and met Delores, Michael, Jamie, Chaz and Ammon. After a great lunch we headed for the Memorial Service and met up with Susan, Steven and Milan. It was a wonderful service. The naval honor guard was superb. A fitting sendoff to a comrade in arms and a war hero to our nation in WWII. We had a 21 gun salute with the American flag presentation to the widow. It was first class all the way and much appreciated by those in attendance. WE also had a wonderful surprise by having Erika Call and her husband and son attend. She is the Grandaughter of a close friend of Bob and Beverly. Erika grew up with many fond memories of Bob, they are stationed in Honolulu with the navy. After the navy presentation We all walked to the vault location. Here we took some more pics and then walked to see my parents gravesite. Punchbowl is one of the most beautiful sites on Oahu. I'm glad we got to go and visit my parents site as well as Linda's parents vault. In the future, we'll be able to pay our respects to both. Rest in Peace....
