Tribute to Robert "Great Grandpa Bob" Swan

Book written by Jim C. Mills , a comrade and friend during many missions aboard the PBY naval planes during WWII.

When we fly to Hawaii today. We hop on a plane and are confident that in 4-5 hours we'll landing at our destination from the West Coast. Back in the early 40ty's was not the case. Here is the story of how Grandpa Bob first came to Hawaii as a navigator in the Navy.

This is an amazing true story of WWII. An account by one of the sailors of the plane that was instrumental in turning the tide of the war in the Pacific. The Battle of Midway was the results of the recon work done by Bob and his comrades on the PBY that day.

Grandpa Bob rocks. Thanks for writing this up on him. It is so neat to see what family members accomplished and went through in the past. He is so cute, kind and clever. We love him dearly!

Thank you. I agree. A wonderful man and loving father and husband. Their generation was definitely one of the greatest of generations. They sacrificed so much, for so long, and just considered it their duty for God and Country.

My father, aviation radioman Warren Hull, flew as part of LT Robert Swan's crew in VPB-150 from 9/43 to 5/45. Their plane was #893 and was named the "Beverly Jean", after LT Swan's wife. Dad appears in a crew picture with LT Swan and the "Beverly Jean" that is posted in several places on the internet. I have a copy of the original picture as well. Dad was not aware during the war that LT Swan had been instrumental in sighting the Japanese fleet at Midway. My father considered LT Swan to be an excellent pilot and plane commander. I am sorry to hear of his passing. My father is 90 and in failing health, but clearly recalls his time in VPB-150. Steve Hull

Hey Steve Mahalo for your comments from years ago. Please excuse me for not getting back to you sooner. Your father was a real hero. I'm sure he didn't think so, none of them ever did.

Just a bunch of normal guys doing what they were called upon to do. That'a what Nov felt. I''ve had the privilege of meeting and talking with several men that served with my Father in the 100th Battalion in WWII. Please keep in touch.
